“격랑의 국제정세 속에 통일·북한인권문제 바로 알기”를 주제로

(뉴질랜드= KTN) 박춘태 기자= 민주평통 뉴질랜드 협의회(회장 오창민. 이하 뉴질랜드 협의회)는 지난 7월 31일(수) The Wharf에서 연세대 국제대학원 이정훈 원장을 초청하여 ‘2024 뉴질랜드 통일정책 강연회’를 개최하였다. 이 자리에는 김관용 민주평통 수석 부의장을 비롯, 주뉴질랜드 대한민국 대사관 김창식 대사, 오클랜드 분관 김홍기 총영사, 오클랜드 한인회 홍승필 한인회장 등 100여 명의 동포들이 참석한 가운데 성황리에 진행되었다. 

오 회장은 개회사에서 “요즈음 남북 관계를 보면, 서로 간의 신뢰가 충격적일 만큼 와해되었다. 북한은 대남 통일노선 정책에 큰 변화를 보이고 있는데, 남한을 ‘적대적 관계’ 또는 ‘교전 중인 국가’로 규정함으로써 남북 관계 개선에 찬물을 끼얹고 있다. 이는 한반도에 군사적 긴장을 조성하는 한편, 평화와 안정에 크나큰 위협이 되고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 북한인권대사를 역임한 이정훈 원장님의 강연은 매우 시기적절하며 통일정책에 대한 새로운 비전과 공감대를 확산시킬 수 있는 뜻깊은 시간이 될 것”이라 하였다.

아울러 김관용 수석 부의장은 축사에서, 우리 민족의 숙원인 통일에 대한 당위성·타당성을 역설하였다. 

약 1시간 동안 진행된 이정훈 원장의 강연은 온․오프라인으로  동시에 이뤄졌다. 온라인으로 참석한 크라이스트처치의 한 동포는 “북한의 통일노선 전환은 북한이 체제의 위협을 느끼기 때문임을 인식할 수 있었다. 특히 남북관계를 적대적 관계로 규정하고 있는 점에서 우리의 대응 방안․전략을 진지하고 다양하게 모색할 수 있는 좋은 강연이었다.”라고 소감을 말했다. 

강연 후 열린 공연에서는 박석열 테너의 "그리운 금강산" 노래, 윤교진 민주평통 웰남지회장의 부채춤 공연이 행사장 분위기를 한껏 고조시켰다. 

행사 관계자는 “이번 강연회를 통해 한반도의 평화통일에 대한 공감대 형성, 보편적 가치 중시, 자유와 인권 중심의 통일정책 마련, 북한 변화 추진, 자유 통일을 대비한 인프라 구축 등 공조의 제도화를 인식하는데 도움이 되었을 것”이라고 말했다. 

 The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council  "2024 New Zealand Unification Policy Lecture" Ends in Success

Under the theme of "Knowing Right the Unification and North Korean Human Rights in the Turbulent International Situation"

(New Zealand = KTN) Reporter Park Choon-tae = New Zealand Chapter for Democracy and Peace (Chairman Oh Chang-min. New Zealand chapter) hosted the "2024 New Zealand Unification Policy Lecture" at The Wharf on July 31 (Wednesday) by inviting the president of Yonsei University's Graduate School of International Studies, Junghoon Lee Kim Kwan-yong, senior vice-chairman of the Korean Council for The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council , Kim Chang-sik, ambassador to the Korean Embassy in New Zealand, Kim Hong-ki, consul general of the Oakland branch, and Hong Seung-pil, chairman of the Korean Association in Auckland.

Chairman Oh said in his opening speech, "Looking at the relationship between the two Koreas these days, the mutual trust has been shockingly broken. North Korea is making a major change in its unification route policy toward the South, which is dampening the improvement of inter-Korean relations by defining South Korea as a 'hostile relationship' or a 'state in conflict'. This creates military tensions on the Korean Peninsula and poses a great threat to peace and stability. From this point of view, the lecture by Director Junghoon Lee, who served as North Korean Ambassador for Human Rights, is very timely and will be a meaningful time to spread a new vision and consensus on unification policy."

In addition, Kim Kwan-yong, the senior vice-chairman, emphasized the justification and validity of unification, the long-cherished desire of our people, in a congratulatory speech.

Director Junghoon Lee's lecture, which lasted for about an hour, was held online and offline at the same time. A compatriot in Christchurch who attended online said, "I could recognize that North Korea's change of unification route was because North Korea felt threatened by the system. In particular, it was a good lecture to seriously and diversely explore our countermeasures and strategies, especially since inter-Korean relations are defined as hostile relations."

In the performance held after the lecture, Park Seok-yeol tenor's song "Missing Geumgangsan Mountain" and Yoon Kyo-jin, chairman of the Wellnam Branch of Democratic Peace, heightened the atmosphere of the venue.

An event official said, "This lecture would have helped us recognize the institutionalization of cooperation, such as forming a consensus on peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula, placing importance on universal values, preparing a unification policy centered on freedom and human rights, promoting North Korea's change, and establishing infrastructure in preparation for free unification."
