역사적 트라우마와 인간 삶의 연약함을 시적으로 표현한 한강, 한국 문학사에 새로운 이정표

(전국= KTN) 김도형 기자= 2024년 노벨 문학상 수상자로 한국 소설가 한강이 선정되었다. 스웨덴 노벨위원회는 한강의 작품에 대해 "역사적 트라우마를 직시하고 인간 삶의 연약함을 드러내는 강렬한 시적 산문"이라고 선정 이유를 밝혔다. 이는 한국 작가가 노벨 문학상을 수상한 최초의 사례로, 한국인의 노벨상 수상은 지난 2000년 평화상을 수상한 고 김대중 전 대통령에 이어 두 번째이다.

한강은 1970년 광주에서 태어나 연세대학교 국어국문학과를 졸업한 후 문학인으로서 출판인으로 첫발을 내디뎠다. 그녀는 1993년 문학과 사회에 시 4편을 게재하며 시인으로 등단했고, 1994년에는 서울신춘문예에서 붉은 닻으로 소설가로서의 경력을 시작했다. 1995년에는 첫 소설집 여수의 사랑을 발표하며 전업 작가로의 길을 걷기 시작했다.

한강의 작품 중 몽고반점은 2005년 이상문학상을 수상하며 그녀를 한국 문학의 차세대 기수로 주목받게 했다. 심사위원들은 이 작품에 대해 “진중하고 깊은 문장 속에 깊은 세계의식이 담겨 있다”고 평가하며 한강의 문학적 깊이를 인정했다. 또한 문학평론가는 몽고반점이 "기이한 소재와 특이한 인물 설정, 복잡한 이야기 전개를 통해 소설 읽기의 또 다른 재미를 보여준다"고 극찬했다.

한강은 2016년 채식주의자로 부커상을 수상하면서 국제 문단에서도 주목받기 시작했다. 이번 노벨 문학상 수상은 한국 문학이 영미권 주류 세계 문학계에서 중심으로 자리 잡는 계기가 될 것으로 보인다. 그녀의 수상 소식은 많은 이들에게 기쁨과 자부심을 안기며, 한국 문학의 위상을 한층 높이는 성과로 기록될 것이다.

Han River Poetic Expresses Historical Trauma and Frailty in Human Life, New Milestones in Korean Literature History



(National = KTN) Reporter Kim Do-hyung = Korean novelist Han Kang has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature. Sweden's Nobel Committee said that Han's work was "an intense poetic prose that faces up to historical trauma and reveals the fragility of human life." This is the first time for a Korean writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the second time for a Korean to win the Nobel Prize after the late former President Kim Dae Jung, who won the Peace Prize in 2000.



Born in Gwangju in 1970, Han made her first career as a writer after graduating from Yonsei University with a degree in Korean language and literature. She debuted as a poet in 1993 by publishing four poems in literature and society, and in 1994 she began her career as a novelist with The Red Anchor at Seoul New Year Literature. In 1995, she started her career as a full-time writer by releasing her first novel, A Love of Yeosu.



Among Han's works, Mongojeok won the Lee Sang Literary Award in 2005, making her one of the next generations of Korean literature. Judges acknowledged the depth of Han's literature by describing the work as "deeply world consciousness contained in its serious and deep sentences." A literary critic also praised Mongojeok for "another fun of reading novels through strange subjects, unique character settings, and complex storytelling."



Han began to draw attention in international literary circles when she won the Booker Prize for Vegetarianism in 2016. This Nobel Prize in Literature is expected to help Korean literature become a centerpiece in the mainstream British and American world literature. The news of her win will go down as an achievement that will bring joy and pride to many and raise the status of Korean literature.
