《세계금궁스포츠협회 오늘의 말》경북의 미래, 구미에서 시작된다

구미는 한국 경제의 상징이다. 1976년 9월, 우리나라는 수출 10억 달러를 돌파하며 구미에 수출탑을 세웠다. 그 수출탑은 단순한 기념물이 아니다. 구미가 대한민국 경제의 중심에서 어떤 역할을 해왔는지, 그 흔적을 묵묵히 지켜보고 있다. 하지만 이제, 구미는 과거의 성공에 머물지 않고 미래를 향한 새로운 도약을 준비해야 할 시점이다.

구미는 내륙 최대의 공단을 품은 도시다. 물리적 기반은 탄탄하다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 더 이상 하드웨어 산업만으로는 세계적인 경쟁력을 유지할 수 없다. 구미의 미래는 소프트웨어에 있다. 인공지능, 빅데이터, 블록체인 같은 첨단 기술이 빠르게 발전하고 있다. 그 속도는 우리 상상을 초월한다. 레이 커즈와일이 말한 특이점의 시대가 다가오고 있다. 인간과 기술이 융합하며 새로운 변화를 만들어가는 시대다. 이 변화의 중심에 구미가 서기 위해서는 지금까지의 산업적 관행에서 벗어나야 한다.

구미가 다시 세계적인 도시로 도약하려면, 몇 가지 중요한 대안이 필요하다.

첫째, 소프트웨어 산업 육성이다. 구미는 하드웨어 중심의 제조업에 강점을 갖고 있다. 이제 그 기반 위에 소프트웨어 산업을 더해야 한다. 소프트웨어 개발자들을 유치하고, 창의적인 스타트업들이 모일 수 있는 환경을 조성해야 한다. 이를 위해 AI와 빅데이터 기술 연구소를 설립하고, 기업과 대학, 연구기관이 협력할 수 있는 클러스터를 구축해야 한다.

둘째, 교육 혁신이 필요하다. 급변하는 기술 환경에 맞는 인재를 양성하는 것이 중요하다. 구미의 교육 시스템을 AI, 로봇공학, 데이터 사이언스 중심으로 개편해야 한다. 기존의 공업 고등학교와 대학들에 IT, 소프트웨어 교육을 대폭 강화하고, 미래 기술을 주도할 수 있는 창의적 인재를 배출해야 한다.

셋째, 스마트 인프라 구축이다. 구미는 물리적 인프라가 이미 잘 갖추어져 있지만, 이를 디지털화할 필요가 있다. 공단의 생산성을 극대화하고, 물류, 에너지 관리 등 도시 운영의 전반에 IoT와 AI 기술을 접목해 스마트 시티로 진화해야 한다. 이를 통해 효율성을 높이고 환경 문제도 해결할 수 있을 것이다.

구미는 역사와 전통이 있는 도시다. 그러나 미래를 향한 준비가 부족하다면, 그 자리에 머무를 수밖에 없다. 특이점은 이미 현실이 되어가고 있다. 구미가 이 거대한 변화에 앞서가려면, 지금부터 변화에 능동적으로 대처할 시스템과 인재를 갖추어야 한다.

경북이여, 미래를 준비하라. 구미가 선도적으로 나아갈 수 있는 잠재력은 충분하다. 남은 것은 과거의 영광을 넘어서, 기술의 최전선에 서겠다는 결단이다.

It is silently watching the role Gumi has played in the center of the Korean economy. But now, it is time to prepare for a new leap forward into the future, not just the successes of the past.

Gumi is a city with the largest industrial complex in the inland. The physical foundation is solid. Nevertheless, the hardware industry alone can no longer maintain global competitiveness. The future of Gumi lies in software. Advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain are developing rapidly. The speed is beyond our imagination. The era of singularity that Ray Kurzweil said is approaching. It is an era in which humans and technologies converge to make new changes. In order for Gumi to stand at the center of this change, it is necessary to break away from the industrial practices so far.

In order for Europe and America to leap back into a global city, some important alternatives are needed.

First, it is the development of the software industry. Gumi has strengths in hardware-oriented manufacturing. Now, we need to add the software industry on that basis. We need to attract software developers and create an environment where creative startups can gather. To this end, AI and big data technology research institutes should be established, and a cluster should be established where companies, universities, and research institutes can cooperate.

Second, educational innovation is needed. It is important to cultivate talented people suitable for the rapidly changing technological environment. The education system in Europe and America should be reorganized to focus on AI, robotics, and data science. Existing technical high schools and universities should significantly strengthen IT and software education, and produce creative talents who can lead future technologies.

Third, it is the establishment of smart infrastructure. Gumi already has a well-equipped physical infrastructure, but it needs to be digitized. It should maximize the productivity of the industrial complex and evolve into a smart city by integrating IoT and AI technologies throughout city operations such as logistics and energy management. Through this, it will be able to increase efficiency and solve environmental problems.

Gumi is a city with history and tradition. However, if you are not prepared for the future, you have no choice but to stay there. The singularity is already becoming a reality. In order for Gumi to stay ahead of this huge change, it needs to have the systems and talents to actively cope with it from now on.

North Gyeongsang Province, get ready for the future. There is ample potential for Gumi to take the lead. What's left is the decision to go beyond the glory of the past and stand at the forefront of technology.
