제79주년 광복절, 뉴질랜드 오클랜드에서 뜻깊게 기념

"자유와 독립의 가치를 되새기며, 한인 동포들 광복의 기쁨을 나누다"

(뉴질랜드= KTN) 박춘태 기자= 지난 8월 15일(목), 뉴질랜드 오클랜드 한인회(회장 홍승필)는 오클랜드 한인회관에서 제79주년 광복절 기념 행사를 성대하게 개최했다. 이번 행사에는 오클랜드 한인회 홍승필 회장을 비롯해 멜리사 리 소수민족부 장관, 김홍기 오클랜드 분관 총영사, 오창민 민주평통 뉴질랜드 협의회장, 손호현 한국자유총연맹 뉴질랜드지부장 등 각계 인사와 한인 동포 100여 명이 참석해 광복의 기쁨과 정신을 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.

홍승필 오클랜드 한인회장은 기념사에서 "대한민국의 독립을 위해 헌신하신 모든 순국선열과 애국지사께 깊은 감사와 존경을 표한다"며, "조국의 독립은 우리 민족의 굳건한 의지와 희생, 불굴의 정신으로 이루어진 위대한 결과물"이라고 강조했다. 그는 이어 "뉴질랜드에서도 대한민국의 자부심을 드높이며, 우리의 전통과 가치를 알리기 위해 노력하고 있다"고 덧붙였다.

멜리사 리 장관은 기념사를 통해 "10살 때 뉴질랜드로 이민을 왔지만 한인 동포로서 큰 자부심을 느낀다"며, "한국 경제의 고도 성장은 세계적인 기적이며, 한국의 교육열은 전 세계의 부러움을 사고 있다"고 전했다. 그녀는 또한 "광복의 기쁨을 오클랜드에서도 기념할 수 있어 큰 기쁨"이라고 말했다.

이날 행사에서는 윤석열 대통령의 광복절 경축사 영상이 상영되었다. 윤 대통령은 경축사에서 '자유', '통일', '북한' 등을 강조하며, "자유의 가치를 지키고 발전시키며 함께 노력한 결과, 대한민국은 글로벌 중추국가로 도약했다"며, "자유·민주·통일 국가가 완성될 때 비로소 완전한 광복이 실현된다"고 말했다.

차정향 시인은 '되돌아온 빛 광복의 날'이라는 제목의 시를 낭송하며, 선열들의 희생을 기리고 일본 제국주의의 만행을 잊지 않겠다는 염원을 담았다. 이어진 감사장 및 공로패 수여식에서는 백효순, 윤근채, 찰리양 동포가 감사장을, 김성혁, 김병진 동포가 공로패를 수상했다.

행사의 하이라이트는 한인 청소년 오케스트라 '죠이플 오케스트라'의 공연이었다. 광복절 노래 연주와 함께 가곡 '비목'이 연주되며, 전쟁의 아픔과 광복의 의미를 되새기는 시간을 제공했다. 죠이플 오케스트라는 뉴질랜드에서 유일한 한인 청소년 오케스트라로, 지역사회에서 문화 나눔을 실천하고 있다.

행사의 마지막 순서로, 전 오클랜드한인노인회 장구한 회장의 선창에 따라 참석자들은 태극기를 흔들며 "대한민국 만세!"를 삼창하며 행사를 마무리했다. 참석자들은 이번 광복절 행사가 민족의 자부심과 정체성을 재확인하는 뜻깊은 계기가 되었다고 입을 모았다.

79th Anniversary of Liberation Day, meaningfully celebrated in Auckland, New Zealand

"Reflecting on the value of freedom and independence, Korean compatriots share the joy of liberation."

(New Zealand = KTN) Reporter Park Choon-tae = On August 15 (Thursday), the Korean Association in Auckland, New Zealand (Chairman Hong Seung-pil) held a grand ceremony to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day at the Korean Hall in Auckland. The event was attended by more than 100 Korean residents and people from all walks of life, including Hong Seung-pil, Chairman of the Korean Association in Auckland, Minister of Minority Affairs Melissa Lee, Consul General Kim Hong-ki, Chairman of the Oakland Branch, Oh Chang-min, Chairman of The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council NZ Chapter, and Son Ho-hyun, Chairman of the New Zealand Branch of the Korean Freedom Federation, to reflect on the joy and spirit of liberation.

Hong Seung-pil, chairman of the Korean Association in Auckland, said in his commemorative speech, "I deeply appreciate and respect all the martyrs and patriots who have devoted themselves to the independence of the Republic of Korea," and emphasized, "The independence of the motherland is a great result of the strong will, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of our people." He added, "New Zealand is also working to raise the pride of the Republic of Korea and to promote our traditions and values."

"I immigrated to New Zealand when I was 10 years old, but I take great pride as a Korean compatriot," Melissa Lee said in her speech. "The rapid growth of the Korean economy is a world-class miracle, and Korea's educational zeal is envied by the world." She also said, "It is a great pleasure to celebrate the joy of liberation in Auckland."

At the event, a video of President Yoon Suk Yeol's Liberation Day celebration was screened. In his congratulatory speech, President Yoon emphasized "freedom," "unification," and "North Korea," and said, "As a result of our efforts to protect and develop the values of freedom, the Republic of Korea has made a leap forward as a global hub country," and added, "Complete liberation is realized only when a free, democratic, and unified country is completed."

Poet Cha Jung-hyang recited a poem titled "Return Day of Light Liberation," honoring the sacrifices of his predecessors and expressing his desire not to forget the atrocities of Japanese imperialism. At the subsequent ceremony of awarding the certificate of appreciation and merit, compatriots Baek Hyo-soon, Yoon Geun-chae, and Charlie Yang received the certificate of appreciation, while compatriots Kim Sung-hyuk and Kim Byung-jin received the certificate of merit.

The highlight of the event was the performance of the "Joy People Orchestra," a Korean youth orchestra. Along with the performance of the Liberation Day song, the song "Bimok" was played, providing a time to reflect on the pain of war and the meaning of liberation. The Joy People Orchestra is the only Korean youth orchestra in New Zealand that practices cultural sharing in the community.

As the final sequence of the event, participants concluded the event with three chants of "Long live the Republic of Korea!" waving the Korean national flag at the initiative of former Oakland senior citizens' association President Jang Gu-han. The participants unanimously said that the Liberation Day event served as a meaningful occasion to reaffirm the pride and identity of the nation.
